Course Syllabus
- TITLE OF COURSE: PE1362 - Advanced Open Water Rescue
- COURSE DESCRIPTION: Two credit hours. This course includes 20 hours of classroom instruction and 20 hours of pool instruction. The class includes development of CPR, first aid, rescue, and search and recovery. For each unit of credit, a minimum of three hours per week with one of the hours for class and two hours for studying/preparation outside of class is expected.

- SCCC/ATS OUTCOMES: Students who successfully complete this course will demonstrate the ability to do the following SCCC Outcomes.

- COURSE OUTCOMES:
- To review, develop and master basic SCUBA skills in pool; i.e., hover, fin pivot, emergency swimming ascents, use of an alternate air source, etc., as a prerequisite for the Advanced Open Water Diver Certification.
- To review and develop general scuba knowledge to include an introduction to topical areas of diving and specialized information about each; i.e., night, navigation, deep, etc. This information will meet the academic requirements for the Advance Open Water Diver course.
- To introduce areas of theoretical diving knowledge as physiology, equipment, skills and environment and use of the dive tables in order to meet the academic requirements for the Advanced Plus Diver Certification as well as preparation for Divemaster as desired.
- To develop an in-depth knowledge of equipment selection, care and maintenance.
- To develop First Aid and CPR skills as a requirement for Advanced Plus Open Water and Rescue Certification.
- To develop skills in emergency oxygen administration as needed for Rescue Diver Certification with an introduction to Hyperbaric Medicine.

- METHODS OF ASSESSMENT: Methods of assessing the general course outcomes and the specific course
competencies include exams, practical skills, and attendance.
- SCCC/ATS Outcome #1 will be assessed and measured by classroom attendance and knowledge
reviews, module exams, and final exam.
- SCCC/ATS Outcome #2 will be assessed and measured by pool skills that are performance based and
must be mastered for successful completion of the course.
- SCCC/ATS Outcome #3 will be assessed and measured by pool skills that are performance based and
must be mastered for successful completion of the course.
- SCCC/ATS Outcome #6 will be assessed and measured by attendance and knowledge reviews.
